On a recent beautiful fall day, my husband and I rode bikes in neighboring Pennsylvania. Beginning in York, PA we rode about 20 miles south to New Freedom, Pennsylvania on the Heritage Rail Trail. It connects with the 21 mile Torrey C. Brown Trail, the former North Central Rail Trail in Maryland. Linking both trails has created a more than 40 mile contiguous interstate rail trail that reaches its peak elevation in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. As I mentioned in my Rail Trail Biking post, New Freedom has some excellent places to eat making it a good destination point and the return ride is an easy downhill spin.
The Heritage Rail Trail differs slightly from the rail corridor in neighboring Maryland. The rail road track has been preserved and a slightly wider trail sits adjacent to the track creating a more spacious feel...

This is a great time of year to bike our local rail trails. I look forward to seeing you out enjoying the fall season!
