MyPlate is a healthy eating visual reminder based on the 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines. Every five years the federal government releases an updated version of the Dietary Guidelines based on current nutrition science.

Because nutrition is a relatively young field, new information is discovered through scientific investigations that refine or alter our understanding of healthy eating...

The 2010 US Dietary Guidelines contain these selected messages for consumers:
Each updated dietary guideline is followed by healthy eating reminders for the public. There is a printable
10 Tips Nutrition Education Series that covers a variety of topics based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans that you can use as a starting point for healthy eating.

Depending on when you first learned about nutrition, you may have bonded with one of these food pyramids:

The 2005 MyPyramid materials are still used as nutrition education tools.  Following the release of 2010 Dietary Guidelines, MyPlate was introduced as a way to more simply convey basic healthy eating principles.  Nutrition is complex and it’s incredibly difficult to visually communicate healthy eating messages to those who would benefit the most.

When you look at MyPlate, think of filling half of your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables.  In fact, adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet and eating a more plant-based diet in general is a sound approach to healthy eating.

Much of the nutrition information found in recent dietary guidelines is communicated electronically in a variety of easy-to-use formats.  The ChooseMyPlate.gov Web site contains a wealth of readily accessible nutrition information.  And last month First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled a plan to have healthy recipes identified with the MyPlate logo.  MyPlate Recipes that meet specific nutrition criteria are now featured on Pinterest.

SuperTracker can help you plan, analyze, and track your diet and physical activity.  It represents the current dietary and physical activity guidelines for Americans.  It’s like having a personal wellness coach by your side and, thanks to your tax dollars, it's free!  Unlock the potential of this powerful tool by viewing SuperTracker How-To Videos.

There are new Ten Tips Nutrition Education Series handouts designed for college students living on campus:     - Mini-Fridge Makeover
    - Be Choosey in the Dining Hall
    - Stay Fit on Campus
